Rivian runs a vertically integrated supply chain anchored in its Illinois plant, producing the R1T, R1S, and Amazon delivery vans. It sources batteries from Samsung SDI and LG Energy Solution while developing in-house capacity in Georgia. After facing semiconductor and battery shortages in 2022–2023, Rivian improved margins in 2024–2025 through supplier consolidation, dual sourcing, and design simplification. Its Amazon partnership provides steady demand but adds customer concentration risk, while a 2024 joint venture with Volkswagen aims to share EV platform and software costs.
Initiative 1: R2 Mass-Market Launch (H1 2026)
What's happening: Rivian is launching the R2 midsize SUV at ~$45,000 — its first mass-market vehicle — with customer deliveries targeted for Q2 2026. Production starts on one shift at Normal, IL, ramping to two shifts by year-end and three by 2027.

Initiative 2: Georgia Manufacturing Campus ($5B Investment)
What's happening: Rivian broke ground at Stanton Springs North (Social Circle, GA) in September 2025 on a $5B facility backed by a $6.57B DOE loan. Phase 1 targets 200K annual capacity with production starting ~2028. The site was chosen partly for efficient export access to Europe. Unlike the Illinois retrofit, this plant is being designed from scratch around Rivian's manufacturing philosophy.
